The publishing workspace for independent authors

From finished manuscript to published book.

PublishOS prepares print and ebook files, checks the details, calculates royalties and creates the launch material, all in one guided workspace.

PublishOS is being prepared for release. Your response will help us understand which publishing tasks matter most to authors.

The problem

A finished manuscript is not a finished book.

A finished manuscript still needs four things before readers can buy it: finished files, checked details, reliable figures and launch material. PublishOS brings that work into one guided workspace.

Without PublishOS four tools, four handovers
Step 1

Word

Set trim size, margins, running heads, contents, front matter and back matter by hand. Repeat the process for each format.

Step 2

A converter site

Upload the manuscript to a separate service, then check whether the structure survived the conversion.

Step 3

A spreadsheet

Rebuild printing costs, royalty tiers and advertising limits for each marketplace.

Step 4

A blank page

Create the product page, social posts, emails, cover brief and advertising plan from scratch.

Formatting errors can remain hidden until the proof copy arrives.

The proposition

One file in. Four stages. Thirteen modules.

PublishOS runs on your computer and opens in your browser. Choose a stage to see its inputs, actions and outputs. Each stage uses the same book information, keeping the files, figures and launch material connected.

Chapter one

The evening before

Before leaving work, place the notebook, source material and first task on the desk. In the morning, write the task in one sentence before opening email. Keep the phone in another room until the first twenty minutes are complete.

She took the elevator to the second floor, bought gas on the way home, and by February 15, 2026 had realized the color was wrong.

Thirteen modules in four stages. All thirteen are described in full on the modules page.

Stage 01 · Prepare the book

Prepare the files KDP needs.

Choose the trim size, page style and body typeface. PublishOS applies the page geometry, front and back matter, contents field, running heads and chapter pagination. It returns the converted files, a change report and a final Word checklist.

Stage 02 · Check the details

Changes what is safe. Flags what is not.

A UK first floor is a US second floor. PublishOS converts unambiguous spelling and vocabulary, flags context-sensitive terms in Word comments, and records the changes. It does not alter passages outside the selected conversion rules.

142 converted automatically 6 flagged for review
What the converter applies
  • 351 UK to US spelling pairs, held against a 200-word exception list: surprise, advertise, exercise, character, doctor
  • 28 vocabulary items converted automatically; 23 context-sensitive ones flagged instead of changed
  • In the other direction: 348 pairs, 21 automatic changes and 12 flags
  • Optional layers: dates, quote style and punctuation
  • Hyperlinks, field codes and footnote references are left unchanged

Scope: the body of the document. Footnotes, endnotes, headers and footers are not converted. One comment for each flagged word, on its first occurrence. The conversion runs on your computer.

Stage 03 · Understand the numbers

Know what each sale pays you.

Enter a page count, a trim size and a list price. PublishOS applies Amazon’s published rates across the five marketplaces, calculates the printing cost, the royalty tier and the highest a click can cost, and compares paperback with Kindle. The calculation runs on your computer.

Open the Royalties module

Royalties UK · paperback · 5 × 8 in
Your inputs
Marketplace UK US, EU, Canada, Australia
Format Paperback Kindle 70% or 35%
Page count 240 KDP supports 24 to 828 pages here

UK £4.54
EU €4.16
US $3.91
Canada CA$1.40
Australia -A$1.20

At a list price of 12.99 in each local currency, this example earns £4.54 in the UK and loses A$1.20 in Australia. The calculator runs on your computer.

Rates last checked on 8 September 2026 against Amazon’s KDP help pages. Royalty estimates only; confirm final figures in KDP. This demonstration covers regular trim sizes and assumes a valid KDP list price. The application also supports large trim sizes and rejects list prices outside the permitted range. This is not financial advice and not a revenue promise.

Stage 04 · Build the launch

One manuscript. One coordinated launch.

Six modules use the same book details and brand guidance, keeping the product page, social posts, emails, cover brief, advertising plan and newsletters consistent.

Illustrative output

AI-generated demonstrations are illustrative and use the fictional sample manuscript, The Quiet Morning. Results depend on the material supplied. Testimonials are returned as marked placeholders for you to replace. PublishOS creates the cover brief; it does not design the cover, and it does not write the book.

How it works

What runs locally, and what does not.

PublishOS opens locally in your browser. File preparation, spelling conversion and royalty calculations run on your computer. AI-assisted modules send the material you choose to Anthropic through your own API key.

Runs on your computer

These modules process your file on your computer.

Print Formatter, Kindle Converter, EPUB Builder and Spelling Converter, plus the royalty calculations and the quality and readability scoring.

  • The work takes place in a temporary folder on your computer
  • The temporary copy of your file is deleted when the task finishes
  • The local application accepts requests only from your own computer
Sent only when you use an AI-assisted module

Anthropic receives the material you choose to supply.

Eight modules, plus the Keyword Brief beside the royalty calculator.

  • Anthropic receives only the details, text or URL content you choose to supply
  • The Book Outline Generator may request web research through Anthropic
  • Your Anthropic API key is stored in PublishOS settings on your computer
  • PublishOS uses that key only for requests to Anthropic
